Her competitive nature took over diving on the floor for loose balls in a camp setting; however don’t get me wrong she does have skill sets. Three United NJ Players Verbally Commit to Division One Scholarship Offers

Jones, Smith, Benz

After the first NCAA Live Recruiting weekend in April, three United NJ AAU players made their verbal commitments to attend Division 1 schools on full athletic scholarships. All three players are members of the class of 2016 and will finish their senior basketball seasons next year.

Erin Jones (Voorhees High School, NJ) is a 6'2" guard who will attend the University of Hartford to play for Jenn Rizzotti. Erin has been a member of United NJ AAU her entire life, and is having a standout career at Voorhees High School. She currently has 938 career points and is expected to break the 1000 pt. mark early in her senior season. In 2015 Jones was named the Hunterdon County Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Jones is a knock down shooter with the ability to make long-range three point shots with defense closing out.

Cameryn Benz (Montgomery High School, NJ) is a 6'3" forward who will attend Lehigh University to play for Sue Troyan. Cameryn surpassed the 1,000-point mark as a junior, with 1,038 current career points. In 2015, Benz was the Princeton Packet Player of the Year. Benz has the ability to utilize her size and length to get to the rim and score from a variety of places on the floor.

Madalyn Smith (High Point Regional High School, NJ) is a 5'8" true point guard with the ability to create off the dribble. She led her High Point team to a 22-5 junior season, connecting on over 56 made three pointers in her sophomore year. Smith will continue her career at College of Holy Cross where she will be a Patriot League rival with Benz at Lehigh.

All three players have played United NJ AAU for the past two seasons or more. All three have been coached by Jimmy Ostaszewski who is the girls High School Director and has been an integral part in their development and college placement.

Fields earns Worrall Media All-Area Honors
Columbia High School girls’ varsity basketball player Jordan Fields earned Worrall Media All-Area honors this season.

Fields, a junior guard, had several high-scoring games, including a 28-point performance in a 71-59 win over Newark Tech and a 29-point outing in the 59-48 win over Caldwell in back-to-back games late in the season. Fields averaged 15.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game this season. Read the article

United U16 Girls Players Verbally Commit to Colleges
United NJ AAU, based out of Hunterdon County, New Jersey is completing one of its most successful girls seasons in program history.  Shortly after the conclusion of the team’s summer exposure circuit, several players were offered scholarships to continue their games at the next level. The team, Coached by Jimmy Ostaszewski a seven year veteran of the program, includes players from all over the state of New Jersey.

The teams competed in the prestigious Nike Tournament of Champions in Chicago, IL, the Blue Chip Lancaster Spooky Nook Event, and Washington DC, USJN Junior Nationals at the end of July. 

The team features several local Hunterdon/Warren players including Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg, NJ), Hailey Pilone (Del Val HS), Carolyn Giordano (North Hunterdon, NJ) Kylie Devlin (Phillipsburg, NJ), Hailey Stine (North Hunterdon HS),  Emma Jones (Voorhees HS), Megan Conners (North Hunterdon HS), and Haley Lusby (North Warren).

Jessica Kovatch (Phillipsburg) was the first player to verbally commit to St. Francis of PA after receiving multiple scholarship offers from other schools.  Kovatch’s offer was followed with the following players committing to offers:

Coach Walker Named the Girls Basketball Coach at Hunterdon Central
United White Goes 'International' at Blue Chip Tournament

The United White 16U Team, coached by Jimmy Ostaszewski, squared off against the International Basketball Club from Spain at the USA Blue Chip Invitational held at Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, Pennsylvania on July 6th. The United White team came away with the win, 78-39. The girls from Spain kept the game close early, but fell behind when one of their top players went down with an ankle sprain. The IBC showed some international flair during foul shots when they would try to huddle next to their bench (which is allowed in international contests) before the officials moved them back into the box. Both teams were eager to take a team picture after the contest  to remind them of this unique contest at this annual tournament.

Dzierzawiec Gaining Interest

6-foot-4 Hunterdon Central Sr. Jeff Dzierzawiec is gaining some college recruiting attention. Dzierzawiec is getting Division 3 and 2 college attention. He has visited Susquehanna, Wilkes and will visit Moravian and Rochester Institute of Technology.

"I'm looking for a place where I fit in well," he said. "A school with good coaches and overall a good basketball program."

As a junior he averaged 10.5 ppg. He was named to the All Tournament Team at the Cotoai Holiday Tournament. He was chosen to the Courier News Honorable Mention All Area Team.

Coach Tanguay Inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame

The Tanguay name has been at the forefront of Hopewell Valley Central High School basketball in recent years, as Nellie Tanguay was a sharp shooter for the some of the best Bulldog teams in school history and now plays for Moravian College.

Lawrence's Ginn scores 1,000th as Cardinals hold on for opening round victory

When a team's biggest offensive threat is held without a shot for the entire second half, especially in a game the magnitude of the NJSIAA tournament when it's win or go home, it's usually a cause for concern.

But Lawrence head coach knew that while Colts Neck had effectively kept standout senior guard Daphne Ginn off the score sheet for the final 16 minutes, it had also essentially played right into the Cardinals' hands.

Loren Kaiser is's Week 5 Top Performer

Four-year starter and first female to score 1,000 career points in school history, Kaiser reached the milestone in Phillipsburg's season-opener. She is averaging a team-best 14.7 points per game for Phillipsburg (17-2), No. 16 in The Star-Ledger Top 20.

Kaiser helped her team open at 13-0 -- a new school best -- until the streak was ended by top-ranked Shabazz in a five-point loss on Jan. 23. This past week, she helped carry Phillipsburg to another pair of milestones, as the program earned its first league title over North Hunterdon in the Skyland Conference, Raritan Division. In the following game, a 50-32 victory over North Warren, Phillipsburg improved to 17-1, which is another Phillipsburg best.

Girardi named Player to Watch -
Week of January 7
As a freshman point guard at Rutgers Prep last year, Allison Girardi would pass it off to seniors Alyssa Coiro and Marvadene Anderson. With the team's two top scorers gone to graduation, Girardi is now taking the shots. As a sophomore, Girardi continues to run the point for Rutgers Prep while leading the team with an average of 13.7 points per game. Last season, Girardi gave the majority of looks inside to 6-10 center Anderson. This winter her improved long range accuracy has given Rutgers Prep (4-2) a strong outside presence with 16 3-pointers made in all six games.

Batella, Fleck lead Lacey over Pinelands
Taylor Batella scored a game-high 15 points and Jenna Fleck added 10 points to lead the Lacey girls basketball team to 45-41 victory over Pinelands in a Class B South game on Monday.

Lacey (6-2, 4-0) won despite making just 15 of 37 free throws as three Pinelands players fouled out. The Lions held leads of 21-17 at halftime and 34-24 through three quarters before holding off the Wildcats in the fourth quarter.

Jenna Dowd scored a team-high 10 points for Pinelands (5-4, 2-2).

Pinkman Wins MVP at Keystone State Invitational Camp
Point Guard Darrien Pinkman, a rising sophomore at Warren Hills Regional High School, won the MVP/All Star Award at the Keystone State Invitational Basketball Camp. Pinkman's team also won the 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 camp awards.

Loughney transfers to Lafayette College
Former North Hunterdon High School basketball standout Kelly Loughney transferring to Lafayette College from NYU

Kelly Loughney, who led North Hunterdon High School's girls basketball team to the 2010 NJSIAA Group 4 championship, announced she is transferring from New York University to Lafayette College.

Loughney won't be eligible to play for the Leopards until the 2012-13 season, but will be allowed to practice next season and sit on the bench for all home contests.

Not a bad week for Lisa Rovatsos. The 5-8 junior swing from Bayonne averaged a whopping 26 points and 16 rebounds to power the Hudson County squad into tomorrow's North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 final opposite Edison.

Loughney Receives UAA Honor
Basketball Player Named Athlete of the Week for First Time

On Monday, February 7, Kelly Loughney received University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors for women's basketball. The freshman forward had a stellar weekend, averaging 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 72.2% (13-for-18) from the floor. Her performance helped lead the Violets to a 1-1 weekend record.

2010 Spring / Summer Accomplishments
Playing games in all of the major spring and summer showcase tournaments our teams traveled New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC to compete against some of the top AAU Clubs on the east coast. Our U16 team finished 31-14 and our U15 team finished 39-9. Accomplishments included winning the Gym Ratz pool to advance to the final bracket, finishing in the top 16 at Penn State, winning the championship at the East Coast Challenge and going undefeated at Jr. Nationals in DC. Congratulations to these teams and their accomplishments in 2010.

Girls U15 Team Really Performs This Summer!
U15 Kuchova - Gym Ratz Tournament
The U15 Girls Team won their pool at the Albany Gym Ratz Tournament and were seeded third in the championship round. Alissa Tarsi and Loren Kaiser made the all tournament team while Tara Flynn got honorable mention. Article - click HERE

U15 Kuchova - USJN East Coast Challenge
The U15 Girls Team won the U15 bracket at the USJN East Coach Challenge. Alissa Tarsi and Loren Kaiser were selected to compete in the All-Star Event the following day. Allison Smith of the U16 team was also selected to compete in the All Star Game.

Bees Repeat Behind Tara Flynn’s 15

The front of the jersey might have said Bees, but for the Bayonne girls basketball team, it might as well have been a bulls-eye. Possessing that target since the opening tip of the season, the Bees showed that they are the best team that Hudson County has to offer after defeating Lincoln 39-33 last night in the final of the Hudson County Tournament at the Yanitelli Center.

“I’m proud of these girls,” head coach James Turner said. “They worked hard. As a coach I have 18 daughters. It’s that glaring moment when you’re daughter graduates high school or college and does something successful. This is awesome for the girls.”

In addition to being the county’s best for the second straight season (they won the HCIAA Coviello title in 2009), Bayonne (20-5) showed that they are the deepest squad as well. Unlike most of their wins this season, it wasn’t the inside-out combo of Connie Hayes and Lisa Rovatsos doing the heavy lift on offense. Instead it Tara Flynn who led the way with 15 points and six rebounds to take home MVP honors.

JUST THE FACTS: Fleming became her school’s career scoring leader, boy or girl, when she broke the mark of 1,231 points set in 1967 by Bob Bachman. She now has 1,242 overall. She averages 16.5 points a game for Delaware Valley (12-1), which is looking forward to the state tournament

Kelly Loughney to continue basketball career at New York University
January 22, 2010

North Hunterdon forward Kelly Loughney has elected to attend New York University to continue her basketball career for coach Stefano Trompeo, according to a news release from athletic director John Deutsch.

Loughney was recruited by Holy Cross, Lafayette, Muhlenberg and Stevens Institute of Technology among others and plans to major in Applied Mathematics and minor in Business at the NYU School of Arts and Sciences.

Emily Cristaldi Featured in the Star Ledger as High School Athlete of the Week

Senior guard, 5-6

JUST THE STATS: Cristaldi is averaging a team-high 21.2 points through six games for Summit, which takes a 6-0 start into Thursday's 7 p.m. game at Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Summit is off to its best start since it went 10-0 to begin the 1997-98 campaign. Cristaldi had a career-high 27 points on Dec. 30 in the championship game of the Hackettstown Tournament to steer Summit's 56-34 victory. Cristaldi was named the tournament's MVP.

COACH'S COMMENTS: "She's been a leader since day one," said fifth-year Summit head coach Brian Erickson. "Emily has just absorbed basketball from an early age. She could always be seen walking around town with a basketball as a youngster. She's definitely worked to improve in the off-season and has developed into a confident player." . . .
